Windows Vista UAC. What do you know about it ?
Are you using Windows Vista ? if you are, the
UAC is no longer an odd
abbreviation for you.
User Account Control (
UAC)
that's how it sound, introduced in Windows Vista to improves securityof your operatiing system. Does it ?
I been using Vista since Q3 of 2008. At first use, UAC is a pain for me. For every single administrative task you want to perform, you will be prompt (if you're lucky) or just disallowed by UAC. Believe it, this is very annying that make you think Vista security is too much and making you want to turn it off all together. And this is wjat i have done previously. First thing after Vista installation, disable the UAC.
Until one fine and perfect day, i had an argument with my Microsoft trainer, finally he makes me realize why UAC is there in the first place working side by sidewith Vista.
You know why you were prompted with UAC when you try to install a program or to use certain administrative tools ?
The program is trying to install and operate as local administrator, or even worst, using "SYSTEM" identiry. This actually will make you suffer when certain threat attack your program and gain control you operating system.
Knowing of the risk, why program/application developers doesn't care if your UAC prompt or not ?
Well may be they are lazy, or not intended to pay Microsoft for a proper source of developing a program that will handle all the operating system access rights probaly. I rarely see Micosoft applications prompt for UAC during its operating.
So, the next time you use Vista, DO NOT DISABLE UAC !
How-To: Gentoo Framebuffer & Splash
Requirements
- Installation of Gentoo system either using the Gentoo 2007 LiveCD or Gentoo-Minimal
- Internet Connection with at least HTTP and FTP traffic allowed
- Kernel 2.6.23-r1 (Gentoo Sources)
Pre-installation
- If you’re using Gentoo-minimal installation, you probably need this guide http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml
- After the installation done, reboot the machine and login for the first time. I won’t tell you others basic things that you ne ed to configure the platform as i assume you have Linux knowledge at this stage.
- Update the Gentoo Portage tree with these commands:
# emerge –sync
# emerge portage
You may experience difficulty emerging portage as the package is block by the BASH packages/depend encies.
You need to run these:
# emerge =app-shells/bash-3.2_p17-r1
# emerge sys-apps/portage
# emerge app-shells/bash
Emerging Splasutils and Themes
You will no need to emerge Splashutils and its themes. Make sure and enable the 'fbcondecor' useflag for splashutils
# USE=”fbcondecor” emerge -av splashutils v86d splash-themes-gentoo splash-themes-livecd
Emerging and Compiling Kernel
- Get the desire kernel. In my case, i used “gentoo-sources-2.6.23-r9”.
# USE=”build symlink” emerge =gentoo-sources-2.6.23-r9
- Use “Genkernel” to compile and install all modules required.
# genkernel –menuconfig all
- Required kernel optional :

Intel, Dell : Vista Rollout Hold Off
The giant of computer processor manufacturer, Intel, will only roll out Microsoft Windows Vista internally only if the first Service Pack released by Microsoft. The same goes to Dell.
"Centrino Pro is a far more capable platform (than the previous version of Centrino) based on the performance delivered by the Centrino core," Mueller said. "We will use it as our standard platform for rolling out Vista and Office 2007. We saw Santa Rosa and Vista coming along in roughly synchronized time, which led us to be a little slow on replacements (of computers within Intel) in the last few months."
Intel Europe's director of IT, Martin Mueller said.
"We are pretty much in the same position as Intel within Dell, we knew we would roll out Vista internally faster than any other OS (but) if we are at the SP1 level it is going to be safer."
Director of Client Marketing for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, Eric Greffier said.

"Intel will roll out Vista internally only once the first service pack of the operating system has been released, and Dell is likely to do the same." By David Meyer of ZDNet UK reported from Paris.
Do More With Virtual
As computer hardware advancing like a bullet train, some of you (G33ks) certainly will have this type of question in mind "Does my Windows XP really juices out everything that i am having". Well, i can tell you certainly no, unless you are a "HARDCORE" gamers or designer who really using some resources hunger application.
So, how about those who have high-end hardwares and looking forward to explore the wonders of multi platforms and multi tasking ? Then you should have yourself expose to the "Wonders of Virtual Computing". As starting point you can explore the world leading 'Virtual Infrastructure sofware', VMWare, with one of its product 'VMWare Workstation'
VMware is the global leader in virtual infrastructure software for industry-standard systems. The world's largest companies use VMware solutions to simplify their IT, fully leverage their existing computing investments and respond faster to changing business demands.
